What is the definition of healthy? As it turns out, the word doesn't mean the same to everyone, which makes it difficult to develop food system policies to support healthy outcomes. At the 2014 James Beard Foundation Food Conference, Ag Innovations President, Joseph McIntyre, led audience members in a group exercise to dissect the meaning of healthy. He underscored the very meaning of the JBF Food Conference, calling it an "interactive event where we cocreate a better reality for the food movement," by setting the stage for dynamic problem-solving in small groups. The question he presented to the group: "Think about a moment when you felt healthiest. What makes health for you? What are the drivers?" In discussing this seemingly simple question, he encouraged attendees to focus on listening ("5 parts listening and 1 part speaking"), to be curious, and participate fully as an active co-creator of change.
