Sonoma County Food System Alliance Accomplishments in 2011
- The Alliance has three committees: Farm to Institution, Policy and Assessment.
- The Alliance co-hosted a Food, Agriculture and Health Forum with the Board of Supervisors and UCCE on February 24th. More than 300 community members attended the Food Forum to give recommendations for local action on food and agriculture issues. The Forum was covered in numerous local news articles.
- Sonoma County Food System Alliance (SCFSA) distributed an op-ed piece for Food Day to local media outlets.
- Additionally the Sonoma Alliance completed and released the Community Food System Assessment Report (PDF):, and the Sonoma Food Forum Report (PDF) as a follow-up to the Food Forum held in February 2011. Both reports where presented to the County Board of Supervisors and the Alliance will be creating a food policy framework for the County.
- The Alliance recommended policy goals for the County Board of Supervisors in the form of an “Executive Directive” based on the forum and its work over the last year.
- Sonoma County Food System Alliance (SCFSA) held a training for school Food Service Directors in conjunction with Food Day, with local producers in Sonoma County in order to facilitate the procurement of local food for local school districts. The event was the first of its kind in the county.

Sonoma FSA Hosts Successful School Food Workshop for Food Day
Oct. 2011 Sonoma County FSA hosted a free School Food Workshop on October 25 for Food Day, which provided a review of best practices, networking opportunities with local farmers.

Sonoma FSA Members Present to Windsor Town Council
Sept. 2011 Alliance members Jana Hill and Wendy Krupnick presented the outcomes of the Sonoma County Food Forum to the City of Windsor’s Town Council on Wednesday, September 21. The presentation also included an update about other food system work going on in the county. After a successful presentation to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisor on August 9, Sonoma County FSA members are eager to reach out to individual municipalities and towns in the county about the Food Forum recommendations outlined in the report, and how every community can adapt and use them.
